Review: Verizon Motorola Droid Sucks
For anyone looking for an iPhone on Verizon Wireless, please do not think the Droid is your answer. From the chicklet-type flat keypad to the plastic feel of the screen, the Moto Droid is lacking on features and full on hype. While the general spec sheet for the device seemingly appeals to the very nerds it was designed for, the Droid fails to hit a few key marks which make it not the iPhone killer it was intended.
First, a physical keyboard was added to the device in order to appeal to those who feel that a touchscreen only keypad is not the answer. Motorola definitely missed the mark on the keypad. It is difficult to use and the flat surfaces make it very hard to type quickly. The slider keypad is not spring loaded and therefore is more difficult to open and close than it should be. Next, the Droid is a fairly heavy, bulky, and ugly device. Motorola included a very disturbing gold backing line on the back of the device for no apparent reason. Also, the overall shape of the phone has very hard lines and looks clunky. The device is also quite heavy and feels solid in the hand. Also, while the screen is quite sharp and clear, it lacks the quality feel of the iPhone's glass surface. Time will only tell how it holds up to everyday scratches.
The Droid will likely find the same fate of the Palm Pre; heavy on hype and light on features. The iPhone it is not...
