Review: MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal

April 14th, 2008 Guitar Effects/Pedals |

Anything new from MXR deserves some time of discussion.  The quality of MXR is usually extremely high and they consistenly offer unique sounding effects that are less mainstream than say, Boss effects.

The MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay is just that, a purely analog path signal delay which attempts to bring us back to pre-digital times.  The M169 is built with high grade die cast steel and definitely will endure a long life on the road, like other MXR pedals.  (review continued below...)

Secondly, you will find a few knobs on the front of the effect:  Mix, Delay, and Regen (short for regeneration), as well as a classic foot activator pedal switch.  The goal of any analog effect is warm, rich tones and the M169 delivers on that promise.

I find that this pedal delivers a sweeter delay than my boss effects.  One drawback that may effect whether some people are interested in buying the M169 is that the maximum delay time is only 600MS (which is on the shorter end of other pedals in this price range).

For $149 dollars, if you value a warmer more authentic sounding delay that will make your live sound spring to live, I would recommend the M169.  Otherwise, if you want higher features, longer delay, and save some money, I would head towards Boss's general direction in terms of delay pedals.

MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal Features:
Analog audio path
Extremely compact
600ms delay time
Controls: Mod switch, Delay time, Mix, Regen
True hardware bypass
9-volt operation
Blue LEDs
