Review: Apple New 2 Gig Shuffle

February 29th, 2008 | Apple

Apple has given more value for the money. The latest version of the iPod shuffle tops out at 2 gigs of memory at an unreal price of $69.00.

If you recall, the first version of this second generation player cost $79.00 and only had enough room for roughly 250 songs. Apple has doubled the capacity and lowered the price. Moore's Law seems to always be in effect with Apple.

Apple seems to believe that the physical design of the iPod shuffle is damn near flawless and thus they have chosen not to make any changes. You will still find the same anodized steel exterior and durable clip.

The biggest question most people have is whether apple will ever include some type of display on the Shuffle. I highly doubt this.   Apple has always been about having clearly delineated products which each have their own functionality. The Shuffle is designed to be a no-frills device which is simply designed to pump your music out at a cheap cost. Apple is genius because by making a player this cheap they are allowing almost anyone to enjoy a high quality Apple product. This foot in the door approach will lead to more products sold overall.

My suggestion is that if you are looking for a player to use at the gym, 2 gigs is probably unnecessary. Go for the reduced price 1 gig shuffle which now costs an unheard of price of $49!
