The Tascam DR-1 Portable Studio Record will sells for around $299.00 in stores. We at Wiser-Rocker have reviewed a fair number of Tascam multi Track recorders and have found them all to be pretty reliable and provide a good number of pro features for a reasonable value. Let's see if this new item will stand up.
The Tascam DR-1 is a hand held recorder with built in stereo mics. The purpose of this is primarily to record live gigs, rehearsals, samples, songs, podcasts, or news events in MP3 or 24-bit WAV format. (review continued below...)
Live Results:
The two mics are condenser mics and are designed to provide accurate and crisp sound quality.
What I am impressed with is that Tascam chose to ship the DR-1 with a 1 Gigabit Flash Card. This card will provide you with tons of recording time, even at high fidelity levels. Speaking of which, Tascam tells Wiser-Rocker that the DR-1 will record at better than CD quality- 44.1kHz/24-bit recording resolution. My first question was whether a 4 gig card could fit into this monster- the answer is hellz yeah!

Finally, with this type of digital recording, a solid and fast transfer to PC method must be achieved. Tascam has included a fast USB 2.0 port for easy transfer to any digital recording software on your home computer for further editing. Time will tell what audio quality will emerge from the Tascam DR-1. Look for a hands on review in a few weeks.
