Sorry, I was noise-cancelling you: Bose Quietcomfort 2 Review

After many long flights suffering through the sound of babies crying, passengers complaining, and the overall noise of JET ENGINES I decided to try out my first pair of noise canceling headphones, the Bose Quietcomfort 2. I must say that a device which works by monitoring the outside ambient noise and digitally eliminating it from your ears sounded fascinating to me.

If you are familiar with Bose products, you know they are well known for reproducing sound with amazing clarity and lifelike bass response. Out of the box, the headphones require 1 AAA battery, which fits on one side of the headphones. By my calculations I got about 25 hours of playtime out of that one battery. Not bad at all.

As far as how these headphones sound, I was very pleased. As expected, the Bose Quietcomfort 2's have great bass response and the high-end response is crisp and clear. I tested everything from classical music to Guns N' Roses. Everything sounds great.

The noise reduction works like a charm. I could not hear the conversation of passengers even one row ahead of me or walking by. Believe me, these things eliminate outside noise allowing you to focus on your music and get some much needed rest and relaxation.

As for the design of these headphones, there are a few things I would change:

First, I found the headphones to be a tad too large. I had trouble fitting them in my briefcase and they were a bit to large to fit into my coat pocket. So if you are looking for ultra portability, look elsewhere. The reason the headphones are so large probable has to do with the fact that they require a AAA which fits inside. My guess is that future generations of the Quietcomfort will get sleeker and smaller.

Also, when these headphones are activated a solid little red LED is lit the entire time. I'm shocked that the battery lasted so long with this light on the whole time. Kind of a pet peeve of mine- but whatever. Also, the $299 asking price may be too high for some.

All in all, a great quality pair of headphones which, as promised, eliminates extraneous noises excellently.

Overall headphone dimensions: 7 3/4"H x 6 1/2"W

Ear cushion outside dimensions: 3 4/5"H x 3"W

Weight with cables: 6.9 oz.
