Man oh man these stand alone recording studios keep getting cheaper. It is always amazing how technology keeps driving the cost of good equipment down. The overarching reason for these lower prices? The fact that the most popular recording products are now based on both software and hardware solutions that use personal desktop computers rather than these stand alone devices.
That being said, the Tascam DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio is a fantastic portable solution that allows anyone to travel with a fully functioning and, surprisingly, great sounding recorder. The Tascam DP-004 features 4 tracks of CD quality recording in the tinest package imaginable. If you are interested in recording any more than 2 tracks at once, however, you best look somewhere else. The DP-004 only allows for up to 2 track simultaneous recording onto the included 1 GB SD card. It features a pretty good sounding built in stereo condenser mic for recording demos. It also allows for pretty good setting of levels, panning, and EQ functions.
For the price of around $150 this little recorder does an excellent job.
