This creative device turns a standard iPod classic/ iPod touch/ or even an iPhone into a flexible recording device. If you are familiar with iPhone and iPod touch applications you are probably aware that the App Store does offer 4-5 different software based multi track recording programs. I have played with some of them and noticed that they have inherent limitations based on the lack of inputs on an iPhone or iPod.
The Alesis ProTrack (retails for $399) has two XLR 1/4" inputs as well as a 1/8" stereo output. If you don't want to connect anything to this device you can still record using the device's two condenser mics.
The audio quality is pretty good, 16 bit, 44.1kHz. If you travel extensively, you could not get a better small recording solution. I would buy this if you already have an iPod and want to create some demo recordings when inspiration strikes. Enjoy!
