The Line 6 Toneport UX8 rackmountable recording unit is perhaps the most powerful and best sounding unit that the company has yet to release. In summary, however, by charging $500 for the unit, Line 6 has moved away from the lower end hobby market and pinned themselves to compete with ProTools, Digidesign, and Mbox units. All in all, the UX8 does a fantastic job tracking and coloring your sound for digital usesge.
Having used ProTools extensively, I an very tempted to use this device as a direct digital converter box while running ProTools, which I find is a much more refined piece of software than what ships with the UX8.
The digital effects found in the Gearbox package cannot compare to Protools based plug ins. That being said, there are some convincing cab emulations to be had.
