Review: New Apple 3G iPhone

For those who were unwilling to buy an iPhonebecause it lacked 3G capability, look no further.  Apple has just unveiled a 3G capable iPhone (iPhone 2.0) which has blazing fast data transmissions over AT&T's 3G cellular network.

A big question that is still on the minds of everyone however is how much, if any, difference in the monthly plan will cost.  Hopefully AT&T realizes that the installed base of iPhone1.0 users do not want to have to increase their monthly fee and hopefully it says the same (unlimited data plan).  The ability to have broadband quality access without the need for a WiFi network will be an amazing improvement to the iPhone.

Essentially, benchmark testing needs to be done to determine how much an effect this new 3G connectivity will have on the battery life of the iPhone.  Steve Jobs, when asked a year ago why the iPhone 1.0 did not have 3G stated that it had to do with poor battery life in their initial tests.  Let's hope that they have solved the problem with this.

The device will be thinner dimensions that the original iPhone and also ships with 2.0 Software.  The biggest change with the new software is the addition of the App Store, which will allow the downloading of applications through the iPhone, much like the iTunes store allows for now.  The combination of these new features should inject some excitement back into the iPhone sales.

Rumor has it that the cell phone market has slowed in recent months and that Apple is willing to do anything to stay on top of their goal of selling 8 Million iPhones in 2008.
