What the hell is this? B Stock guitars? Does this mean I am buying the worst Epiphone in the history of the world? Not exactly.
The Epiphone Dot Studio Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar is a sharp looking and decent playing semi hollow electric guitar that I find is perfect for a newer player interested in blues or jazz playing and will eventually buy themselves a Gibson at some point. The guitar itself is well constructed and for the price (a measly $250) this guitar cannot be beaten. Here are the official specs:
Laminated maple top, back, and sides
Set maple neck
Semi-hollow construction
Vintage Alnico V plus pickups
Rosewood fretboard
Stopbar tailpiece
Scale length - 24-3/4"
Nut width - 1-17/25"
The minimalist styling of this guitar is not likely to appeal to everyone and certainly makes the Dot Studio seem a bit bland. When I plugged this guitar into my Fender Twin amp I was surprised at how warm and lush the guitar actually sounded. Epiphone did a good job installing decent pickups and combined with the hollow structure of the electric, makes for a sweet playing guitar. In the lower range markt the minimalist styling of the Semi-Hollow cannot be matched in terms of price and performance.
