Review: Gibson Shred-X Explorer Electric Guitar Ebony

Here is a quick look at the Gibson Shred-X Explorer Electric Guitar Ebony.  This is probably the most distinctive looking Gibson guitar that Gibson has ever produced.

What I think Gibson has done with the Shred-X is try to create a guitar that appeals directly to the heavy metal heads, who have traditionally gone to other guitar makers for their heavy satisfaction. (review continued below...)

...This Shred-X is made from one-piece mahogany body with ALL black chrome hardware and a brilliant Ebony finish.

I picked this guitar up a few weeks ago and wanted to see how it sounded.  Thanks to the EMG 85 pickups this guitar does have a pretty amazing heavy sound that is also deep, lush, and full of tone. You will find no fancy frills like custom placed inlays on the fretboard.

Gibson has abandoned that look for the Shred-X Explorer.  Gibson has also placed the toggle switch to the bottom of the body, unlike the Les Paul style, which has the toggle switch on the top section of the body.

This allows for faster access and in general is more practical for a guitar of this time.  In my humble opinion, the Shred-X Explorer from Gibson is quite a solid guitar that will hold it's value well.

Built for years of enjoyment, I could not find many flaws with this guitar.  Retails for over $2,000.00 new.
