Review: Gibson LP-295 Goldtop Electric Guitar
Are you looking for one hell of a flashy Gibson guitar and think the standard Les Paul just won't cut it?
Let's take a quick look at a true gem: The Gibson LP-295 Goldtop Electric Guitar. First, this guitar features the wider Florentine cutaway style body first seen in the legendary ES-175. The first thing you will notice picking up this guitar is that yes, it is pretty darn heavy...
The reason for this lies in the body of the guitar which is crafted of pure Mahogany with carved maple top. The flashy pickguard is cream colored with inlays of flowers on them (I know, this sounds kinda girlie but I assure you it is tastefully done).
I feel what gives this guitar the distinctive look is the custom Bigsby tailpiece which you will find gracing the back of this master.
If you have played Gibson standard Les Pauls you will notice that they have 1960s style "Slim" profile necks. This guitar has a chunkier feel with the 50s style neck. I find it has no real effect on sound output but makes playing unique to the LP-295 and truly feels vintage in your hands.
What impresses me most about the LP-295 is the pickups: you will find it loaded with Gibson's '57 Classic pickup Humbucker. The hot, warm tone is perfect for crunchy southwest blues your fans will not soon forget.
If you have roughly $2500 dollars laying around you may be able to pick this Gibson up. I highly recommend trying this guitar at least once- I think the style may be too flashy for some but if you are looking to stand out in the right ways, this may be your axe!
