While I don't typically review Bass guitars, I want to spend some time on a real beauty, the Gibson SG Limited Edition Bass Guitar.
This bass features a faded finish that gives it the look of a vintage instrument. Complete with mahogany neck and body with chrome hardware. Features TB Plus bass humbucker at the neck and a bass mini-humbucker on the bridge. 2 volumes and 1 tone control rounds out the tone. If you are looking for a bass that you can pull up to a gig at and look completely original, I would seriously consider this. Also, keep in mind that this is a limited edition bass guitar- therefore the value of this instrument is most likely to increase over time.
Ok, now the real question: How does this bass perform? I am mostly a guitar player, but I tested this bass over the course of a few weeks and have found that the action of this bass is uniquely Gibson. That should give you some confidence. I found it easy to play even up in higher frets.
Additionally, the sound of a humbucker-supported bass guitar is unlike many other bass sounds- it is beyond rich and creamy. I like a natural wood feel, which this SG faded does a good job of replicating. Good bass for the serious player- Complete with high quality hardshell case as usual.
