Retailing for just over $400 dollars, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar was designed to give players that classic Les Paul tone made famous by Gibson but at a price more affordable than a standard Gibson Les Paul guitar.
It is made of solid mahogany (the same used by Gibson's Les Pauls) and complimented with Alnico Classic humbuckers. These pickups are certainly not of the super high quality that you will find in the Gibson models, but in practice I find that these Epiphone pickups do a fantastic job of emulating the warm, rich tones that make Gibson such a distinctive instrument.
In my opinion, the thin neck of this guitar is most similar to the Gibson 60's reissue style of neck designed for faster playing. You will be playing like Slash in no time with this guitar. I find that the trapezoid inlays are also well crafted and respectably placed in the neck.
All in all there is nothing "Plain" about the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar- it plays well (I've had one for 2 years) and find it captures the classic warmth and playability of the Les Paul very well.
