Review: Gibson Robot SG Special Ltd. Electric Guitar(Purple Metallic)
You may remember a few months ago we reviewed the stunning new Auto Tuning technology that Gibson had designed right into their headstocks.
Well, time has passed and Gibson has changed the name of the tuners from "Gibson Powertune System" to simply "Robot". While this distinction is small, I must say I think I like the name Robot better.
However, it does seem to carry negative connotations with it. Does the player who buys this guitar lack the necessary and fundamental skills to even tune his own instrument? Must he rely on a "Robot" to do so? For many players, myself included, I would respond by saying that having a perfectly tuned guitar that is actively keeping perfect pitch is a revolutionary and much needed gigging godsend. Anyone who has ever played a live gig will know that even the best pedal guitar tuners or rack gear requires time to use (something hard to come buy while standing on stage).
The Gibson Robot SG Special Ltd. Electric Guitar(Purple Metallic) is a great guitar and I am happy that Gibson has added the Robot tuners to the SG body style. I think that the SG appeals to a huge group of players and this enhancement is definitely a warm welcome.
As for features, not much else has changed: Expect the very best from Gibson, from solid Mahogany body with AA maple top to the Ebony 22 Fret board. Retails for around 2 Grand.
