Review: Second Generation Apple iPod Nano 8 Gig

February 10th, 2008 | Apple

OK, what is that fat lookin' iPod all about? What gives Apple the right to change the very popular shape of the Nano line (perhaps one of the most profitable iPods in history)?

Well, Apple knows best and has a hit on their hands with the new Second Generation Apple iPod Nano 8 Gig. If you are new to this line of iPod, check out the specs below. Apple has managed to fit a beautiful two-inch display that's 65% brighter than before.

It is now constructed of anodized aluminum finish with a glass screen for years of durability. On the software end, Apple has introduced coverflow which is accessible with the scroll wheel.

I thought that the display of the covers was not as smooth as say, on the iPhone, but you have to imagine that the Nano processor is much less powerful than the iPhone's. The entire interface itself has been overhauled to show more images of your music rather than text. I find these changes to be appropriate and appealing.

The question remains whether people will actually watch video content on this screen and if Apple will end up selling more videos from iTunes because an additional player now supports video playback. One thing is for certain, Apple is again lowering prices and packing in more features rapidly.

Perhaps too rapidly. Customers get upset when pricing changes to fast, as Apple has learned with the recent iPhone price reduction.
