Let's face it, the iPod is a pretty powerful little hard drive recorder when coupled up with the right software. What is absolutely genius about the Belkin TuneStudio is that it solves such a huge problem. Why purchase a multi track recorder complete with it's own hard drive when you already have a powerful iPod in your collection? They are tapping into a very good market with this thing! First, the Belkin ships for only $199.00 and allows direct to iPod multitrack recording without the need of a Mac or PC. I asked Belkin which types of iPods will work with the TuneStudio. So far only the iPod Class or iPod video (sorry iTouch users). Belkin assures me that support for all types of iPods are not far off.
As far as inputs, the TuneStudio allows for 4 instruments/mics to be inputed and recorded simultaneously. This is damn impressive. Essentially, what I love about this concept is that after your recording is complete you can listen to it on your portable iPod where ever you are, no need to burn a CD or mp3 version of your material, it is already on the iPod. This feature alone will save countless hours of your time.
The physical components and mixing board looks pretty standard and does support phantom power and many levels of EQ. We are all very excited about this product- very innovative and currently the only multi track recorder to utilize an iPod in existence.
