This mic is certainly nothing new, but we here at Wiser-Rocker feel that dedicating a little space on the classic Shure SM57 is warranted, as this mic is probably the most trusted and economical performer ever created. Why does every musician and engineer have one (or 3 or dozen) of these things?
The Shure SM57 is ultra reliable, heavy duty, versatile and sounds amazing. You can literally toss this thing off a roof and it was survive. (review continued below...)

...Have I mentioned that it retails for about $99.00 (even less on Ebay)? If you are a guitarist, the Shure SM-57 does a great job recording or miking your amp in live settings. My drummer relies on multiple SM57's for recording purposes and even during live shows. Ask anybody, an SM57 on the top (and bottom) of the snare is pretty standard and has been for years. It is literally an industry standard. Since there's not 'pop filter' ball on the end of the mic, the bass response is quite high. The frequency response is perfect for getting a clear, lightly-colored representation of a wide variety of instruments and vocals. The only thing I wouldn't use it on is miking a bass drum or bass amp - get a bigger diaphragm mic for that.
Its wide frequency response (40Hz-15kHz) and tight cardioid polar pattern are ideal for close-in miking of speakers.
