Let's cut to the chase. The Boss RC-2 Loop Station pedal is a powerful device, for the right player. I always tell people that if you are in a band, love to play life shows and jam with your friends, this pedal is probably not for you.
Why do I say this? The reason for this is that while a looper pedal is easy to use, getting your drummer to keep up with the mechanical and inflexible repetition will not happen.
Now, that being said, I feel that the Boss RC-2 is a great 'sketch pad' tool for practicing or writing layered guitar parts. The Boss RC-2 does it all: recording, looping, and multi layering, all in the standard stomp box sized device (compare this to the size of the Boss RE-20). The most commonly asked question about the RC-2 is how long you can record for.

The answer: 16 freakin minutes! They should have just labeled this delay time as infinite, you will never run out of time on this sucker. As expected, the Boss pedal switch does a great job of allowing for easy looping and flexible control of most functions. I found that one of the best and most valuable features of this device is the ability to store 11 different creations on the built in memory.
While I would have liked to see some kind of USB output for allowing an easier way to export your creations, just being able to store 11 different compositions is impressive on a pedal costing $179.00. If you are interested in using this thing at a live show, a great use is recording audio clips, funny sounds, famous voices, and playing them live to your shocked and amused fans. All in all, the Boss RC-2 is a powerful performer that is truly easy to use. Like I said before, I feel that if you are buying this pedal as a musical sketch pad for ideas or if you are a live solo performer and want to create Howie Day like sounds on the fly, you will be extremely pleased.
