TC Electronics ND-1 Nova Delay Review & Video

November 12th, 2007 | Guitar Effects/Pedals, Ronz Gear Reviews, tc-electronics-reviews

Ron Ganella

Just unwrapped my fresh ND-1 Nova Delay Pedal. First impressions- tons of knobs and switches on board make me think this guitar pedal probably has some extensive features. Let's take a closer look.

The ND-1 Nova Delay is a big step above your common delay guitar pedal (such as the Boss DD-6) because it allows you to save your complex presents (up to 9 of them!) right on board. As for features, the ND-1 Nova Delay features 6 different delay types: Delay line, Dynamic, Reverse, Ping-pong, Pan, and Slap-back. (review continued below...)

Selected Video:

This guy has a few effects hooked up and he's playing along with a track, but you can still get a good sense of the smoothness of the Nova Delay. It's very rich:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

These effects are true stereo delays and therefore you can output the signal to two sources (either for recording or during a live setting). I messed around with some of the stereo features using two of my amps. It was easy to set up and the sound (such as Ping-pong) reminds me of more expensive rack mount guitar effects.

The maximum delay length of the effect is 2290 ms, providing plenty of room to work with. This delay length can also be adjusted on the fly using the Tap Tempo Switch. I found this tap tempo to be extremely useful and helped me quickly find my tempo. While holding down the tempo switch, just strum against your guitar strings the rhythm and speed of your song and the ND-1 Nova Delay does the rest. Pretty cool!

For musicians who may use this pedal for DJ, mixing, or studio recording purposes, you can set the delay readout for milliseconds OR beats per minute. Very useful in live or studio applications.

If you are looking for a guitar pedal that gives you almost endless ability to configure your sound and have the money to spend (retails for around $249.00) the ND-1 Nova Delay may be for you. I do enjoy it.
